What happened
The second Meteosat Third Generation Imager satellite (MTG-I2) has been launched on board an Ariane 6 rocket, flight VA270, from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. The launch took place on 27 August 2026, according to the European Space Agency (ESA).

MTG-I2 completes the first family of Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellites. This family is designed to deliver data for weather forecasting over Europe and northern Africa with unprecedented quality, quantity, and frequency. The completion of the trio ensures the full operational capability of the MTG system, enhancing meteorological observations and forecasts for the region.
