What happened
ESA has announced that the final two Cluster spacecraft, Samba and Tango, will end their mission by burning up in Earth's atmosphere on 31 August and 1 September respectively. These targeted reentries mark the conclusion of the pioneering Cluster mission, which has significantly advanced our understanding of Earth's magnetic environment.
Why it matters
The reentries not only close a chapter in space exploration but also offer a rare scientific opportunity: observing the reentry from a plane. This could provide valuable data for future spacecraft design and reentry prediction.
